Cedar Point, one of America’s greatest amusement parks, has opened its gates for another season of family fun. Cedar Point’s collection of 71 rides including 17 roller coasters, towers over the crystal shores of Lake Erie. Often known as the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” the park is looking to expand its appeal to thrill seekers with the unveiling of its new floorless coaster, Rougarou. Rougarou’s track is that of Mantis – an older stand up coaster that called Cedar Point home for nearly 18 years. With new floorless cars and a freshly painted track, I couldn’t pass up the chance to experience these renovation for myself.
Approaching the coaster, thrill seekers are met with the howls and growls of a mythical swamp creature. Riders make their way through layers of fog before crossing a floating wooden bridge to board the coaster. As the buckles clasp, the floor of the coaster slowly begins to fall away, leaving rider’s legs dangling as they ascend the 137-foot hill.
Rougarou’s initial drop sends riders into four gut-wrenching inversions and turns at up to 60 miles per hour. Sharp dips bring riders to the edge of rocky water features and dense green shrubbery. As the coaster comes to a halt, riders are given a breathtaking view of the park from the platform before stepping off to the next thrill. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the new coaster’s look and feel. With a fresh design, Rougarou is yet another world-class roller coaster that calls Ohio home.

Exhilarating coasters, an impressive selection of shows, and endless dining choices make Cedar Point an all-American summer attraction. Top thrills and kid’s areas like Planet Snoopy make the park appealing to all ages. You should also check out the newly renovated Hotel Breakers for a beachfront overnight stay.
What’s your favorite attraction at Cedar Point? With so much to choose from, it’s always a “barrel-of-fun!”
