Spring has finally sprung in Ohio and people are once again venturing outdoors. Aside from enjoying all of the natural spring beauty the state has to offer, one of my favorite springtime activities is indulging my inner epicurean side and gathering with friends or family at the numerous outdoor patios. Below I share some of my personal favorites!
Moerlein Lager House – Cincinnati
Moerline Lager House is located in the heart of downtown Cincinnati directly on the riverfront near Great American Ballpark. The restaurant and brewery boasts an impressive selection of both in-house brewed beverages along with a delicious array of new American cuisine. Not to mention, the views of the Ohio River and the beautiful Roebling Bridge from both the upstairs and downstairs patios are unbeatable!
Arnold’s Bar and Grill – Cincinnati
Arnold’s Bar and Grill, located downtown on East 8th Street, is Cincinnati’s oldest bar. The eclectic haunt has a rich history, dating all the way back to 1861. The bar also hosts a vibrant music scene, featuring many local jazz and blues artists. Their tasty American-inspired menu and extensive drink selection are among the city’s best.
The Blind Lemon – Cincinnati
If you’re in search of fantastic music, creative cocktails, and a lively garden patio - The Blind Lemon should be at the top of your list. Founded in the early 1960’s, the bar's name serves as a tribute to Texas bluesman Blind Lemon Jefferson, and prides itself in providing nightly musical entertainment ranging from blues to jazz to rock. The Mount Adams hilltop bar has served as a hangout for both locals and numerous celebrities alike, and is an absolute must-see!
Barcelona – Columbus
Barcelona Restaurant and Bar offers delectable Spanish cuisine along with an impressive wine and drink list. The restaurant is decorated to reflect old-world European charm with an artistic flare, and is tucked away in the historic German Village neighborhood. Barcelona has been consistently voted as one of the top restaurants and patios in the Columbus area for the innovated cuisine, inviting atmosphere, and beautiful patio gardens!
Bodega – Columbus
Located in Columbus’s hip Short North neighborhood, Bodega gastropub offers its patrons a selection of more than 150 beers, along with an incredibly delicious and creative menu. During the warmer months, the front patio is the perfect location to enjoy the restaurant’s award-winning happy hour and the vivacious neighborhood atmosphere. They also host $1 grilled cheese Mondays, which is reason enough to visit!
Basi Italia – Columbus
Tucked away in the beautiful Victorian Village neighborhood, Basi Italia features Italian cuisine inspired by seasonal and locally grown produce. Connected to the cozy restaurant is a warm and inviting patio, perfect for an intimate and relaxed dining experience. Each week the restaurant hosts Vino on the Veranda, where restaurant goers taste and learn about the variety of wines.
The Greenhouse Tavern – Cleveland
Located on Cleveland’s popular East 4th Street, The Greenhouse Tavern provides guests with a truly inventive dining experience featuring locally sourced fare, microbrews, and artisanal cocktails that cater to a variety of palates. The tavern has gained recognition nationwide by the likes of New York Magazine, Bon Appetite, USA Today, and many others! Among the most popular and recognized dishes is the animal-style frites and the short rib. Don't forget to head up to the beautiful patio for a few drinks!
Tremont Tap House – Cleveland
Tremont Tap House, located on Cleveland’s Southside, is the city’s first gastropub and offers an expansive selection of selection of craft beers along with a creative menu featuring dishes such as bánh mì, oysters on the half shell, and pork belly nachos. Outside, the gastropub has a warm and inviting patio that seats up to 50 people, and is the perfect spot to enjoy a meal or drink on a warm spring or summer evening.
The Trolley Stop – Dayton
The Trolley Stop is located in the heart of Dayton’s vibrant Oregon Art’s District and has been a neighborhood staple since the mid-1800s. It’s the perfect place to stop for lunch or dinner while exploring the beautiful, historic neighborhood! The tavern is popular for it’s unique menu, friendly atmosphere, frequent live music, and lively courtyard patio.
The Docks – Toledo
The Docks is the ideal spot to take in Toledo’s riverfront views and city vistas while enjoying a plethora of dining options. Restaurant venues include Real Seafood Company, Zia’s Italian, El Vaquero, and Admiral’s American Grill – each with ample outdoor seating and extensive menus. Even if you aren’t looking to sit down for a full meal, The Docks is the perfect location for an afternoon stroll along the Maumee River and perhaps a couple drinks afterwards!
