When one thinks of major “fashion” cities, Los Angeles and New York might come to mind. But you might be surprised to know that Columbus is emerging as one of the most fashion forward cities in America and the world. In fact, it is ranked as the third most fashion forward city in the country (right behind the aforementioned NY and LA), which is evidenced by leading brand companies such as The Limited and Abercrombie & Fitch that call central Ohio home to their headquarters.
Now, Columbus is making its mark in this flourishing industry by hosting the first ever Fashion Meets Music Festival, taking place August 29-31, 2014. Branded as “Three Days. Two Loves. One Place,” this progressive event is showcasing the city’s growing prominence in fashion and its already booming reputation in the music world.
According to Melissa Dickson, communications director for the FMMF, many companies are looking at Columbus as a growing and thriving market, and there is a great deal of new and exciting things on the horizon to look out for.
As one would imagine, there is an abundance of both fashion and music that will be taking over the streets of downtown Columbus and the Convention Center during this exciting event.
The festival will feature performances from more than 120 bands, with headlining acts including O.A.R. (who call Columbus their “second home”), Local Natives, Michelle Williams (of Destiny’s Child), and Destructo, as well as additional after-party acts including Future Islands, The Menzingers, and Maps & Atlases. The full music lineup is available here.
Additionally, local up-and-coming bands such as The Bummers (of Columbus), New Hollow (of New Albany), and Angela Perley and the Howlin' Moons (of Columbus) are also on the line-up. Dickson stated that the festival caters to many genres of music, including indie, pop/rock, and hip hop, much like it caters to different styles of fashion, from high-end labels to more affordable threads. There is something for everybody at FMMF.
Designers and fashion brands at FMMF will include Althea Harper (a "Project Runway" contestant based out of Dayton), Anti Label (owned by another "Project Runway" contestant from Columbus), and Arlo Menswear of Columbus. The entire list of confirmed brands and designers can be found here.
FMMF is free, but single-day and three-day “Access to Excess” VIP passes are available at http://www.fmmf.us/tickets/. These passes give people access to VIP viewing areas at all shows, food and beverage credits, swag bags, merchandise discounts, and private restrooms.
In addition to music and fashion, Nationwide Boulevard from High Street to Neil Avenue will be transformed into a streetscape of various cuisine; complete with gourmet food trucks, aerial zip lines, and one of North America’s largest Ferris Wheels! The festival will also be providing an Urban Camping option.
What a great event for Ohio! Make sure to go support local fashion, music, food, and fun this Labor Day weekend!
